18 October 2008 – According to most recent UNHCR statistics, the number of asylum seekers from Serbia has declined by almost a fifth. During the first six months of the year, 6,200 asylum applications originating from Serbia have been registered. This makes Serbia the seventh country of origin of asylum seekers in the industrialised world.

However, the report does not contain a geographic break-down or a break-down on an ethnic basis. In several footnotes, it is specified that Serbia and Montenegro may be treated together. There is no mention to Kosovo which is obviously considered as a part of Serbia.
