Geneva, 25 September 2009 – In the context of the Universal Periodic Review, several speakers criticised Macedonia over its treatment of the refugees from Kosovo. A representative from Hungary asked Macedonia to reassess the legal status of the refugees who, with a few exceptions, have been granted only temporary protection on humanitarian grounds. An NGO representative criticised the Macedonian asylum system for not being enough sensitive on gender issues.
