Rom in Kosovo expresses fear about consequences of status settlement
18 February 2008 – In an message sent on 15 February to the President of the YU ROM Centre, Osman Balic, in Niš and published in the 26th issue of Roma Housing News, a Rom from Kosovo living in one of the Serb enclaves expressed his fears that Roma might again be helpless victims in case of renewed violence.
“We, Roma living in Serbian enclaves, do not have a political representative in Kosovan institutions. We are like the orphaned children left on the streets, ” he said under the coverage of anonymity, complaining that nobody was talking to them and no one listened to their concerns.
He also directed his criticism against the Roma political elite in Serbia, alleging that they have never stood up publicly to defend the interests of Roma in Kosovo.
