8 February 2008 – During the regular UNMIK press briefing on 6 February a journalist, from TV Most asked KFOR to confirm information according to which KFOR recently visited several returnee villages in Kosovo in order to introduce their inhabitants with evacuation plans and ask for their approval.

While KFOR captain Bonneau denied the existence of any such plans in the event of a declaration of independence, UNMIK Director for Public Information, Alexander Ivanko, later on, during the same briefing, confirmed the existence of contingency plans “for any eventuality”.

Commenting on alleged population movements between the North and the South of Kosovo, UNMIK spokesperson said that UNMIK is not aware of any plans of people to move, but, quite on contrary, encourages IDPs to return to Kosovo.
