How do we perceive the Roma?

Is our image of the Roma a subtle portrayal of their differentiated reality, or rather a caricature based on half-truths and common clichés?

These are the questions raised by Roma Realities, a travelling photo exhibition which documents the challenges and promotes the goals of the Decade of Roma Inclusion 2005-2015. Produced by SDC, the exhibition was shown to the public for the first time in Budapest as part of the International Conference on Education Reform and Roma Inclusion organised by the Roma Education Fund (April 2-3, 2007). Roma Realities highlights the many facets of the situation of the Roma which does not depend on some ethnic or genetic predisposition, but rather on the opportunities and obstacles Roma encounter as participants in social life.
